Originating in the fourth century, the season of Lent spans 40 weekdays beginning on Ash Wednesday and concluding Saturday before Easter. Originally, Lent was the time of preparation for those who were to be baptized, a time of concentrated study and prayer as the entire church was called to prepare for Easter.
BeFree Barrington is joining the season of Lent this year, beginning with an Ash Wednesday service this Wednesday at 7pm. It will be a 30-minute time of singing and prayerful reflection from Scripture. We will begin a new teaching series during Lent: Practices to Form Christ in Us.
We hope this simple time of worship on Ash Wednesday will give us a momentum toward Easter in a more intentional way than otherwise would be the case. It is really a preparation to celebrate God’s marvelous redemption at Easter, and the resurrected life that we live, and hope for, as Christians. Join us!
